First Glimpse – Sam’s 2nd Bday

By  | Last Updated:

Because we’re so immersed in the boy’s parties all the time, I’m feeling a little bit of pressure to make Sam’s second birthday really special. (Why do we do this to ourselves?) Thankfully, Janelle jumped in and is helping with the printables for the party. Among her collections for Spaceships and Laser Beams is our vintage car collection, so you know whatever she does for Sam will be gorgeous. I thought I would blog the process of planning for his party and first up are the rough sketches that will eventually be products in our shop.

We decided on a fishing theme as it is something that plays a very big role in our lives. It will have a slightly vintage feel. The color palette will be very neutral — greys browns dark greens and blues that are greyish or brownish with soft blues, lime greens and faded oranges as accents.

The banner (above) will be pattern based. I am leaning towards having it say GONE FISHIN’ or as well as having a version without letters that we could hang as a gorgeous pennant everywhere.

The circle decals (below) will be a combination of “fishing sayings”, fish or the number two on a patterned background resembling scales, sea weed, water rings, or speckles/stripes reminiscent of the fish illustrations.

Because we love cupcake wrappers here at Spaceships and Laser Beams, they’re going to be extra special. Here’s a preview and we’ll have more details on how to make them closer to his birthday.

Stay tuned for lots more. His birthday’s not till July! 🙂

Stephanie is in love with a boy named Sam. He has taught her that it's okay to jump first and look later, to wear a dirty shirt to the park and to decide that today is a good day to take a nap in your rubber boots. She hangs out here blogging at Spaceships and Laser Beams and at our printable party shop on Etsy.
