Football Party Food Ideas: Fudge Pop Footballs

By  |

I’m sure Mom didn’t realize she was setting me up for a lifetime craving. I mean, my mom loves me. And now, I’m doing the same thing to my kids. I’ve always heard history repeats itself.

In the neighborhood I grew up in there were a lot of kids. I suppose that’s why the truck made regular passes down our road.

The first few times he came, I felt shy and didn’t want to go by myself but Mom encouraged me. Later, I was much braver and ready to beg for the necessary coins as soon as my ear caught the music while he was still the next street over.

When he picked his spot to park, kids would swarm all around him as if he were some sort of magical Pied Piper.

Looking into his frosty box was like looking into a coveted treasure chest. It must have been dry ice that caused the mysterious misty vapor that added to the allure. Sweet anticipation!

Original Fudgsicle Fudge Pops

There were all sorts of frozen confections but my favorite was always Popsicle’s® Fudgsicle. The distinct chocolate flavor and the creamy texture was—and is—one of my best-loved taste treats.

The Original Brand Popsicle® has been satisfying kids of all ages since 1905—it’s America’s favorite ice pop for good reason. There are over 20 unique flavors available now, including the childhood favorites of orange, cherry and grape.

Today, with school activities and football games keeping us busy, I often need to come up with a quick dessert solution to share after a game. Fudgsicle footballs are an easy, go-to dessert for the season that the boys love.

I suppose you could make frosting and use a piping bag, but buying pre-made decorating cupcake icing that comes with a decorator tip is a quick way to create white football laces on Fudgsicle “footballs”.

I noticed the older kids have no trouble downing a popsicle in nothing flat, but if you also have little guys who take longer to consume their food, using a cute football themed container to catch drips is an excellent idea.

The Original Fudge Pops

Nowadays I can just go to the grocery to pick up the iconic yellow Popsicle® box. I’m glad I don’t have to wait for the ice cream man to find my street but I’m a little sorry for my boys’ sake that they only get to look in the grocer’s freezer section.

But must be that mysterious misty vapor in the frozen section, coupled with the anticipation of choosing their favorites flavors, is enough. History…repeating itself.
