The first house Mike and I lived in was a rental. We had both been living in apartments previous to that. In fact, before I was married I was paying my dues as I built my marketing career and lived in some pretty suspect areas. We were so excited that the rental house had air conditioning and a garage, as well as a big back yard and deck. One of the first things we did was buy a little barbecue for that deck and invite a dozen friends over for a BBQ. Mike staked out the deck and BBQ area as his manly domain.

Bacon + Mac & Cheese Hot Dogs

Everyone was having a good time, hanging out, waiting for our feast. After about 30 minutes, Mike came in smiling, with his tray piled high with hot dogs, burgers and chicken. It was all one color…black. He had basically turned the BBQ on high and burnt everything. The meat had a fine, burnt husk on the outside and it was all uncooked in the middle.  We ordered take-out to feed everyone and continued on with our housewarming party. To this day, more than 11 years later, I do all the grilling at our house!

Hot Dog Ideas

We actually grill out frequently now. We love being outside, on our deck. Somehow, food cooked on the grill just seems to taste even better. It’s not my only specialty, but I can grill up a mean hot dog! Start with a premium product like Ball Park Park’s Finest and you can’t go wrong. There are no artificial preservatives, no artificial flavors, no colors or fillers and no nitrates added. Ball Park Park’s Finest hot dogs have a robust flavor. You can actually see their premium seasoning. They are available in five great varieties: Cracked Dijon Mustard, Slow Smoked Hickory Beef, Signature Seasoned, Jalapeno Cheddar and Slow Cooked Chili Beef. Add a couple of sides and you’ve got the quintessential summertime meal. Or, do it like I did this last time. Why eat the perfect side with your hot dog when you can put it on it?

Stephanie is in love with a boy named Sam. He has taught her that it's okay to jump first and look later, to wear a dirty shirt to the park and to decide that today is a good day to take a nap in your rubber boots. She hangs out here blogging at Spaceships and Laser Beams and at our printable party shop on Etsy.
