It’s no secret: the holidays can be stressful. Our family’s regular schedule is pretty hectic already… so when you add in all the “extras” during the holidays, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. Because of this, I’m very conscious of making decisions based on my following stress-free holiday tips. They really do help save your sanity!

1. Go simple. Take advantage of items like paper plates and plastic cutlery to cut down on dishes to wash. I promise — you’ll enjoy that extra time making memories with your family instead of slaving in the kitchen. {I love buying in bulk at Sam’s Club because it means I have enough to last all season long.}

2. Be creative. Stick with simple, homemade decorations. They are both meaningful and memory making. 

3. Budget. Don’t be scared of the “B” word — it’s your friend all year round, but especially during the holidays. Staying debt free and not going on a spending spree will bring you peace, joy and comfort for the rest of the year! 

4. Plan. Flying by the seat of your pants is sure to induce stress. Instead, lay out a realistic plan for the coming weeks. Accepting the fact that you can’t possibly cram everything in the short window of time will provide you peace when saying “no” to something that does’t fit in your plan. 

5. Take advantage. Use easy make ahead recipes for any meals you can. The holidays are the perfect time to cook ahead and utilize freezer meals. I also make several “five minute meals” — these are recipes that take five minutes or less to prep. I’m sharing one of my favorites below.

Ready for a five minute meal idea? This easy make ahead recipe is one of my favorites. It’s easy to prepare, packed with protein and everyone loves it. Definitely a winner to keep on hand!

Easy Bacon and Egg Cups

Ingredients

  • 12 large eggs
  • 12 slices Wright Brand Bacon {purchased at Sam’s Club}
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh green onion, for garnish

Method

  1. Line muffin tins with thick-cut bacon slices and crack in one egg in each lined tin.
  2. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  3. Bake at 400F for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle with fresh green onion.

I’ve been known to serve these for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They go great with regular wheat toast, pancakes or even french toast. A side of potatoes and fruit make it the perfect meal. Absolutely delicious and so simple to make.
