A Minion Christmas: Fun DIY Ornaments
Are you all about red and green at Christmas? Some years I am, some years I’m not. This year is a not. I have a gorgeous white tree with copper, gold and silver accents. I’m loving it. It looks festive and serene, all at the same time. Although Sam “helped” me decorate, I might admit I moved a few ornaments after Someone was in bed. A tree with five ornaments on top of each other does not bring me Christmas joy!
Sam’s small tree is a different thing, however. He decorates it with his own special ornaments, any way that pleases him. New ornaments reflect current interests so his tree is a sweet reminder of what is important to him. It’s really fun to watch him decorate. Do you do that with your kids?
One of the decorations Sam added to his tree this year is a cute Minion ornament we made together. Like half of the world, Sam thinks those little guys are pretty cool. He doesn’t know it yet, but he is getting the Minions movie this year. It’s being released on Blu-ray/DVD/On Demand on December 8th. The Digital HD version just became available November 24. We saw Minions when it was released in theaters and we all really enjoyed the antics so I know he’ll like owning it.
The Blue-ray™ Combo Pack and Digital HD versions also come with three all-new mini-movies. Give yourself a break from the holiday hurry-ups and go watch “Competition” right now! Laughter is good medicine for any bah-humbugs!
Want to make your own Minion ornament? This is what you’ll need:
- clear Christmas ornaments
- yellow multi-purpose acrylic paint
- black pipe cleaners
- silver pipe cleaners
- large google eyes
Tips: Be generous in putting the paint into the bulb. Shake and tap that baby to get it to cover more quickly. We put the black belt around the ornament first, twisting it closed. Add a glue dot over the belt on the front side and put the eye (or eyes) there. Make a goggle with the silver pipe cleaner, tucking the ends under.
Although I used a glue dot to adhere the eye, you could easily use a glue gun. The twisted pipe cleaners stayed in position for us but you could also add another glue dot if you needed to make that more secure.
To celebrate the release of the Minions, we’re having a fun giveaway! Prizes will be available on December 8th, the day the Blu-ray/DVD/On Demand will first be available. Enter to win one of five:
- Blu-ray/DVD combo packs
- Minions beanies
- Sticker sheets
- Luggage tags
a Rafflecopter giveaway
That should add a little merry to your holidays! Now…if we could only get some Minions to wrap the presents for us…
