Winter White Dinner Party: Part 2
Post sponsored by Lunchbox. All opinions are 100% my own.
Are you looking for holiday ideas to charm your guests? As promised, here’s the rest of my Winter White Dinner Party, replete with holiday sparkle, shine and a taste of Tuscany! I think this lovely white, gold and silver scheme works perfectly for a main serving area and the decorations could also be used for a party dessert table focal point.
There’s nothing like being with family and friends throughout the holiday season. Whether it’s for Mike, Sam and I or a house full of friends and neighbors, decorating adds something special to a meal. Even little Sam gets excited when he sees the decorations! Sometimes I have an entire tablescape in my imagination before I ever begin to put things together, but usually I just have a few ideas. I pull out decorations and start playing around.
I love using a table runner for the foundation of a display and then I pile on the décor. For Christmas, a lavish parade of themed elements makes a delightful holiday statement. It’s a little tricky to get the right combination of heights. Variation is more interesting visually, but you want guests to be able to see each other across the table. Slender glass hurricanes are a great choice. They’re tall enough to impress but they don’t block guests. They’re also versatile. A pair of hurricanes creates great balance.
For this dinner party I added seasonal elements of pine cones and twig balls. Since they are “snow” covered in glitter they contribute sparkle, but I also like the way the earthy brown of the pine cones adds depth and coordinates with my dark wood table.
Snow globes are magical anytime. Who do you know that isn’t mesmerized by the swirling flurry of tiny snowflakes? I think they look awesome between the hurricanes.
I clustered additional glittered pine cones and shimmering star ornaments in my arrangement. It’s simple, but elegant. The winter white decor is the perfect background for a delicious winter white menu.
No matter how wonderful the decorations are, if you don’t have a delicious menu, you don’t have a party! White lasagna roll-ups with Bertolli’s Alfredo Sauce was the star attraction here. The rich, savory taste satisfies and it’s an easy main entree to put together. My guys loved this variation of lasagna: White Lasagna Roll Ups. Sam especially liked the creamy texture. When he finished eating, he was very proud of himself for not having tomato sauce stains around his mouth. I kind of hated to point out that this lasagna didn’t have tomato sauce!
To keep my winter white theme consistent, I also served Creamy White Potato Soup, Fresh Parmesan Garlic Rolls, Decadent Hot White Chocolate and White Shortbread Cookies. Everyone’s appetites were sated and we all enjoyed talking about what we’re anticipating for the upcoming Christmas holiday season. Sam is just positive we’ll have a white Christmas this year!
Whether it snows for the Christmas season or not, make winter white magic with these delicious recipes:
- 6 medium mashing potatoes
- 3 scallions
- 2 cloves garlic
- 900 ml of chicken broth
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup white cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup white cheddar
- 1/4 cooked and chopped bacon
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 ounce white chocolate
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- Wash, peel and chop potatoes into chunks. Peel and finely chop scallions. Peel and mince garlic. Combine in a medium pot and boil in chicken broth. Reduce heat to simmer and cook until potatoes are soft. Mash any chunks of potato. Fold in cream and cheddar cheese until cheese is melted. Top with additional cheese and bacon, if desired.
- Serves 4.
- Stir ingredients over medium heat in saucepan until chocolate is melted and mixture is hot. Do not boil. Makes 1 cup. Times by number of people to serve to multiple guests.
