Train Birthday Party Food Ideas
It’s Nikki from Pip Events with my first guest post for Spaceships and Laser Beams. For my oldest sons 3rd birthday, I was set on having a Llama Llama Red Pajama party, but Sam was set on having a train party. We compromised and threw a Sammys Jammies Junction party. Since the guests were going to be riding the rails in high style in their jammies, I decided a brunch would be the best direction to go with the food.
Party food is my favorite food. I can have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich any old time, but there is only one place I can get a train shaped peanut butter and jammies sandwich.
I live with the belief that any food can be made to fit any party theme with the right name and the right presentation. All it takes is a little creativity and a little research. I spent several hours looking up train terms and designing a menu that lived up to the lingo. Like this Cheese Hog Strata (egg, cheese and sausage strata with maple syrup). A hogger in the world of trains is a locomotive engineer and they need to start off their day with something yummy and filling.
We served Chugger Oatmeal (aka Amish Oatmeal). With a little milk this stuff was so good it was hard not to chug it down.
We also served Ham Bagel Train Wheels (mini bagels with cream cheese, cheese, and ham), and an assortment of cereals: Conductor Crunch, Choo Choo Puffs, and Honey Nut Caboosies.
The dessert table (because a party without a dessert table is like a train without a caboose and who does that?) was also dressed to impress with Donut Coals, Chocolate Covered Rail Spikes, Blueberry Cheesecake Smokestacks with Cotton Candy Smoke, Locomotive Lollipops, Clackety Clack Popcorn Balls, Chugga Chugga Chooies (homemade train-shaped gummies), and Over Easy Cinnamon Bun Cupcakes with Orange Frosting and Oreo Cookie Salt and Pepper Crumbs.
For the dessert table topper, my mom made a cupcake and candy choo choo train.
