Now Launching: An Angry Birds Inspired Boy’s Birthday Party

By  | Last Updated:

Feathers were flying at the “birdhouse” as Jen Carver, of Banner Events, prepped for 20 guests to come “crash” her two boys’ Angry Birds inspired birthday party. Perfect for two video game-loving boys, this boy birthday party is full of high scoring ideas for invitations, party decorations, cake, cupcakes plus pig and bird inspired favors and games. Taking inspiration from the popular game, Jen chose bright colors (red, lime green, yellow and blue) which she carried throughout the styling.  Not only was the party atmosphere colorful and fun, but guests felt like they’d been flung into the game with a life-size slingshot and other décor/activity elements reminiscent of the game. A well designed dessert table is a highlight of every party; Jen designed this one to look like a screenshot of the game.  The play, pause and high/low score buttons (part of the printable party décor by Anders Ruff Custom Designs) added clever details to the cloud paper backdrop.  An artificial grass table runner and wood stands which resembled the wood building blocks that get demolished in the game, really helped bring the table to life!  They were perfect for display of all the gorgeous sweet “tweets” from some very popular dessert artists. Some of the highlights included: TNT favor boxes filled with popcorn; gorgeous sugar cookies fromSweet Surrender Cookie Co.; chocolate donuts (Smash Cake Studio) dressed up with polka dotted treat sticks and party flags; and the unbelievable fondant topped cupcakes and mint chocolate push-up pops from Lynlee’s Petite Cakes and Edible Details. The dessert table focal point was the two-tiered cake with molded chocolate and fondant scenery designs by 4 Kids Cakes, Lynlee’s Petite Cakes. I imagine the plates were filled and re-filled with these treats!

Jen coordinated the dessert and dining tables by repeating design elements. Highlights from the dining tables included the bird nests at each place setting, which held the fun beverages in custom wrappers. Colorful plates from Smash Cake and Co. were paired with licensed character plates; slingshots at each place setting foreshadowed the fun to come!

Planning activities for a mixed-age crowd can be tough for any mom.  Jen adapted a few ideas she found online and came up with a few new ones.  There were: puzzles and coloring books; Bird-O (BINGO); a DIY pig bowling game Jen created from recycled, two liter bottles; pig balloon pop (also a DIY game); capture the egg relay race. The overwhelming favorite was a live action slingshot game the Carvers created with a giant sling shot and cardboard boxes (you can see more details about each game here).

Stephanie is in love with a boy named Sam. He has taught her that it's okay to jump first and look later, to wear a dirty shirt to the park and to decide that today is a good day to take a nap in your rubber boots. She hangs out here blogging at Spaceships and Laser Beams and at our printable party shop on Etsy.
