Unique Thanksgiving Kids’ Table Decorations

By  | Last Updated:

A Thanksgiving kids’ table can establish a mood as soon as guests arrive. A themed table has fun written all over it, even before the graffiti appears! Toni, at Design Dazzle, has used some clever supplies from her local dollar store and her own impressive ideas to come up with cute favors and terrific decorations.

Check out Toni’’s suggestions that will please energetic kids and their parents. Sunshiny yellow, autumn orange, bright red and apple green make for a warm invite to this Thanksgiving kids’ table. While final meal preparations are being made, kids’ can make paper chains to festoon their chairs. Let the kids write what they are thankful for on pre-cut paper strips and then use glue or tape to hold them together (scrapbooking glue dots would be an easy help). Use twine, and perhaps artificial leaves, to tie them on chair backs.

Decorations and Ideas for Thanksgiving Kids' Table

A simple “”Have a Thankful Heart”” banner is the prime focus of the centerpiece. The paper sentiment has been glued to wooden dowels; dried beans, rice or nuts can be used to anchor the dowels in tin cans. The cans were wrapped with painted burlap for an extra zing of color and texture. Small pumpkins were arranged at the base of this centerpiece, too. Friend and family pictures appear in small jars as part of the table decorations. The easy-to-clean-up vinyl table cover is a good idea on its own, but Toni made it even better: she used a chalkboard runner and placemats! That’’s a great decoration and activity idea all in one swoop!

Thanksgiving Kids' Table Ideas - Chaulkboard Placemats

Toni says it’’s easy to paint dollar store vinyl placemats with about a cup of acrylic craft paint, mixed with one tablespoon of non-sanded grout (or plaster of Paris). Use a foam brush to paint. Do two coats, allowing the first coat to thoroughly dry before applying the second. If you want to frequently use the placemats, Toni advises spraying a primer on first. For the table runner, Toni used contact paper. She suggests putting the paper label side down with a couple of tape pieces to hold it flat. Use the same process you did on the place mats to paint. To stick the contact paper onto the plastic table cover, Toni recommends enlisting another set of hands; peel the backing paper off and place the runner sticky side down on the cover. It’’s ready for doodles!

Favor Decorations for Thanksgiving Kids Table

Personalized paper favor bags serve as place cards, too, and offer suggestions of what to do with the goods: write a thank-you note, make a craft, etc. Chalk and sponges (for erasing) are at the ready also. Plastic cups have been embellished with turkey images. Paper doilies and turkeys are affixed to the underneath sides of clear glass plates. Super easy and super cute! Bring on the turkey and let the holiday season begin!
