A World Traveler Boy’s First Birthday Party

By  | Last Updated:

A loved birthday boy is the recipient of many grand wishes for a lifetime of joyful adventure. Talented photographer and mom, Maria Healey, translated those wishes into a charming world traveler first birthday party  theme for her son’s milestone celebration. Inspired by Joseph’s baby shower given for her with the same theme, Maria decided to build on the idea for his first birthday party.  D&P Celebrations created adorable passport invitations and they were just the ticket for setting the stage for the fabulous event to come. Wait until you see the incredible globe cake, travel inspired decorations and luggage party favors in bright, cheerful colors!

A giant passport created the backdrop for the awesome travel themed dessert table styled by Dimply Sweet. When the weather cooperates as it did on this fine day, a sunny, fresh-air party set-up enhances everything!  The burlap and chevron covered table was filled with all sorts of clever themed “in-flight” snacks.  Food and beverage labels, created to look like luggage tags, dressed up sweet treats.  Hanging from the front of the table was a beautiful personalized name banner that repeated the fun party theme and colors; notice the little planes flying between the letters.

A phenomenal vintage style suitcase cake was one of two cakes masterfully created by Roni’s Sugar Creations.  What detailing—I love the travel stickers! It was displayed as the highlight of the table on a cake pedestal. Vintage style suitcases and Coca Cola crates also added color and height and worked perfectly as display pieces for the favors and cupcakes.

Speaking of cupcakes, don’t they look scrumptious with those clouds of frosting?!  The colorful wrappers and themed toppers are great. Also notice fantastic travel themed cake pops, also from Roni; the chevron straw patterns are a small detail but I like that it is a repeat of the chevron table runner.

I also really like the stack of suitcases that fronts the dessert table—it adds another dimension to the display.  Beautiful glass apothecary jars were dressed up with ribbon and labels and then filled with mouth-watering treats like gumballs and taffy. Bags of peanuts and striped cups of pretzels make perfect grab and go snacks.

Boy's Themed World Traveler First Birthday Party Drink Ideas

Fresh water is my all-time favorite drink… yes, it really is! But the beverage jars full of strawberry and blueberry infused water not only look attractive, they serve as a refreshing alternative to plain water. Nice idea, especially for a party. Mason jar mugs with chevron straws are another pleasing beverage station addition.  The small paper suitcase with a few world traveler cake pops helped tie the dessert and drink tables together…another small and thoughtful detail.

Maria also served a terrific variety of party food in colorful dishes.  Darling baggage claim food tags labeled the international cuisine:  Filipino Lumpia; Mexican pork carnitas; tacos; Italian caprese salad; plus fresh fruit and veggies.

Did you notice a handwritten tag peeking out of the dessert table mini drawer? Blank luggage style tags accented with red and white baker’s twine were available for guests to write a personalized “travel wish” for Joseph.  What a beautiful keepsake for Joseph, long after his party is over!

The little guest of honor had the best seat in the house; his high chair was all decked out for birthday adventures. A bouquet of cheery balloons, a party hat and a precious “I am One” bunting signified the guest of honor’s place in the party crowd.  I bet he loved all the birthday excitement!

Maria included a fun smash cake in the festivities; Roni used her talents to create an amazing planet earth cake for this very traditional 1st birthday activity.  Mmmm.  Looks good, doesn’t it?

Most airport trips end with kisses, best wishes and a stop at baggage claim. This party included all of that and more; guests picked up their taffy-filled, mini suitcases before leaving for home, and received a sweet thank you for “traveling with [Joseph”] on [his”] first birthday”. What a party; what a trip; what an exciting celebration of Joseph and his first year!
