A Whoo’s Thankful Owl Themed Thanksgiving Party

By  | Last Updated:

A boy/girl party with the Thanksgiving theme of “Whoo’s Thankful—Lil’ Hoots” is a delightful idea! After talking with her kids about being thankful for the blessings they enjoy, Mariah, of Giggles Galore, decided to turn lessons of gratitude into a Thanksgiving playdate celebration. With Mariah’s ideas as your basis, you are able to recreate this party at home. Include some cupcakes, games and party favors and your kids are in for a fun afternoon!

Mariah set up an outdoor treat station using a sweet dresser. Top drawer knobs are convenient for tying on a colorful scrap fabric strip garland which has been interspersed with owl images. One of my favorite ideas from this party is the “thankful tree”. Wrapped in brown kraft paper and a ribbon, a pail serves as a base for a bare tree branch. Young guests were invited to write something they’re thankful for on blank party circles and then tied them to the thankful tree branches with twine. Mariah made cute wood owl cutouts for decorations, but you could easily use cardstock, too.

Blumebox containers hold the owls upright and crinkle paper shred and moss were used as base container fill-ins. A wood crate creates another display level. Rustic wood slabs were used as platters and small wooden candlesticks were topped with smaller wood rounds and used as cute mini-pie servers. Miniature pumpkins and leaves round out the tabletop display. Besides enjoying the owl s’mores, mini pecan pies, candies and cupcakes, party guests had fun at the activity table where they sat on straw bales to create owl masks and decorate photo frames.

A large owl cut-out looks cute as a jumbo decoration and he was also used for a bean-bag toss. Pin-the-hat on the owl was a cute take off on the classic pin-the-tail game that was played before the guests raked and jumped joyfully into piles of leaves! After a fun afternoon, party guests were sent home with an owl-shaped lollipop box and a grand dose of satisfaction. A great party idea like this, based on an attitude of gratitude, is a certain winner in my book! Congratulations Giggles Galore on an awesome party!
