A Patriotic 4th of July Party

By  | Last Updated:

All-American, festive and fun, this patriotic 4th of July Party is overflowing with budget-friendly ideas for celebrating America’s birthday.  Gretchen, of 3 Little Monkeys Studios, is a rock star graphic designer and party stylist. With “3 little monkeys” of her own, her love for celebrating the 4th of July has grown tremendously. Her adoration of all things patriotic was sparked as she witnessed her children’s excitement for barbecues, fireworks and celebrating with friends and family. You’ll love how she weaves pops of traditional red, white and blue decorations, party favors and sweet treats in with vintage details for a unique and colorful look!

Even after careful inspection of this 4th of July Party, I’d never guess much of the décor was purchased inexpensively.

Gretchen did an amazing job executing the details of her dessert table! She used colorful flag bunting fabric from Amazon to cover an old desk; vintage crates and serving pieces were added to creatively mix the old with the new.  I love the old window pane that peeks out of the backdrop.

Putting her graphic design talents to good use, Gretchen designed a festive red, white and blue patriotic banner which she is offering as a FREE printable downloadable here

I love how she paired the banner with strands of paper-punched bunting in yellow for an unexpected pop of color.  Paper fans and lanterns in patriotic prints and colors added great style to the backdrop.

Patriotic 4th of July Desserts

Gretchen points out that this table arrangement could be used with any configuration of food/desserts. She kept her party table filled to the brim with patriotic flair, and a simple, but appropriate dessert.

Resting on two beautiful white cake stands from Shop Sweet LuLu were two scrumptious looking pies from The Upper Crust Bakery.  Gretchen dressed them up for the celebration with firework and star inspired food picks.

In an adorable striped tub she picked up were containers of ice cream kept cold on ice.  What’s more American than pie and ice cream?!

A variety of refreshing beverages were available for guests to enjoy, including small mason jars filled with homemade sun tea.  Wrapped in patriotic crepe paper and tied with jute, these drinks looked amazing on the table.

A white pitcher and vase filled with red roses added a touch of glam to the table.  Flowers are a great accent to a party space.

Sometimes utensils and paper goods are an afterthought when it comes to using them on the dessert and/or food table, but not at this party! I like how Gretchen made them a colorful part of her display.  Using a bandana-lined vintage box, she displayed cute American napkins and plates.

She also lined mason jars with red and blue bandanas and used them to display wooden utensils and fun paper straws.   I like how she thought outside the box to display these items and make them accessible for guests.

Because Gretchen loves making an impact from the very moment guests arrive at her door, she hung a beautiful patriotic wreath made by Sweet Georgia Sweet. This is such a fun way to share the theme of the event from the start!

4th of july party favor ideas

Of course Gretchen planned for stellar favors.  This mama of three knows a good party favor will keep kids entertained for hours, so parents can relax and socialize.

Gretchen prepped a darling extension of her dessert table for party favors by using an old wooden box.  She filled glass jars with 4th of July themed pinwheels and American flags.

Using brown lunch bags, Gretchen filled them with fun, child-friendly favors like snaps, crayons, coloring books, glider planes, poppers and Lady Liberty sunglasses (that would make some silly photo ops!).

Bags were embellished with vintage-inspired, gold foil doilies from Knot & Bow.  I bet the kids were thrilled to dig into the fun favor bags!
