This s’mores dip features rich chocolate bars for a sweet and slightly bitter base, complemented by large marshmallows that melt to a gooey, caramelized perfection.

Graham crackers for dipping add a delightful crunch and the traditional graham cracker flavor, creating an irresistibly nostalgic and shareable dessert.

You’ll need:

  • 6 full-size Hershey’s chocolate bars
  • 16-ounce package of large marshmallows
  • Graham crackers for dipping

Substitutions And Additions

MARSHMALLOWS: While large marshmallows are the classic choice for this recipe, you can experiment with flavored marshmallows to add a unique twist.

Look for options like vanilla, strawberry, or even caramel-flavored marshmallows. These variations can infuse subtle hints of different flavors into your dip.

GRAHAM CRACKERS: If you’re out of graham crackers or just want a change, consider using other dippable snacks like pretzels, biscotti, or even fresh fruit slices.

Pretzels can add a salty contrast to the sweet dip, while biscotti can bring a delightful crunch.

Sliced bananas or strawberries can introduce a fruity note to the mix.

EXTRA TOPPINGS: Elevate your s’mores dip by adding toppings like crushed nuts, such as almonds, pecans, or even shredded coconut.

CHOCOLATE: While we love Hershey’s bars for their milk chocolate flavor, you can switch up the brand of bars or even pick one that has something extra.

What about Caramilk for some hints of gooey caramel in your dip?

How To Make This S’mores Dip Recipe

We will show you how to layer the ingredients in the pan before baking it to melty perfection.

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 400°F.

STEP TWO: In a greased cast iron skillet, place chocolate in a single layer on the bottom of the pan.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

OIt works best if you break the chocolate into small pieces.

STEP THREE: Top the chocolate with marshmallows.

STEP FOUR: Cook for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven until the marshmallows are golden brown.

PRO TIP:

Oven temperatures vary and may need to be recalibrated periodically to ensure they are accurate. Make sure to check your dip at the lower end of the recommended baking time.

Keep a close eye on your marshmallows so they don’t burn.

STEP FIVE: Let the skillet sit for five minutes. Serve with graham crackers for dipping.

PRO TIP:

Letting the dip sit for a few minutes will give the hot skillet time to cool a bit so no one burns their hands on the edges when digging in.

How To Serve

Serve this easy oven s’mores dip with graham cracker squares for dipping and enjoy the gooey deliciousness!

Graham crackers are always my go-to. They are classic with s’mores and work well for dipping because they tend to hold up well and don’t break as you dip them!

Besides crunchy graham crackers, I also like to dip vanilla wafers or Oreo cookies.

If I am trying to keep it a bit on the “healthier side,” we will go with fresh fruit such as apples or strawberries.

Storage

Now that you’ve enjoyed every gooey, chocolatey bite of your s’mores dip, it’s essential to know how to store any leftovers or prepped-ahead portions properly.

MAKE AHEAD: If you want to prepare your s’mores dip in advance, you can assemble it and keep it covered in the refrigerator until you’re ready to bake.

However, I recommend adding the marshmallows just before baking to ensure they stay fresh and don’t become too sticky or melted in advance.

IN THE FRIDGE: This skillet s’mores dip is best served right out of the oven.

If you do have any leftovers, you can cover the pan and store it in the fridge for a couple of days.

IN THE FREEZER: We don’t recommend freezing this recipe as the marshmallows will lose their gooey texture.

REHEATING: Reheat in the oven at 350°F for five minutes until the chocolate is nice and melted again.

Why We Love This Recipe

S’MORES NOSTALGIA: This recipe captures the beloved flavors of classic campfire s’mores, bringing back memories of toasting marshmallows and enjoying gooey chocolate and graham crackers by the fire.

EASY AND QUICK: It’s incredibly easy and quick to make, requiring minimal effort and time. Perfect for satisfying s’mores cravings without the need for a campfire.

YEAR ROUND TREAT: Unlike traditional s’mores, this dip can be enjoyed year-round, whether it’s a cozy winter night or a summer barbecue.

Who doesn’t love s’mores? I don’t think you can go wrong with the melty chocolate and fluffy marshmallows combination. You can easily assemble s’mores dip, with very little ingredients or time required. Make sure you get a couple of dips in quickly because, chances are, it won’t last long!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I use a different pan than a cast-iron skillet?

You may use another type of oven-safe baking dish, either a square baking dish or pie dish, but note that the chocolate will probably melt more evenly (and stay melted more consistently) using a heavy cast iron pan, which retains heat better than other types of dishes.

Can I use mini or jumbo marshmallows and a different type of chocolate?

You may use your favorite type of chocolate or marshmallows. Finely chopped chocolate, mini chocolate chips, regular semi-sweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, (halved) jumbo marshmallows, regular marshmallows, etc., will all work. You could even mix dark chocolate, peanut butter, or white chocolate chips into the regular chips.

Can I reheat s’mores dip?

This dip is best eaten fresh because the marshmallows will soften when reheated. That being said, you can reheat it if you do have leftovers. Warm in the oven at 350°F for five minutes until the chocolate is gooey again.
