Easy Activities for Toddlers
I love being a mom. Looking back B.K. (before kids), I’m not sure that I expected motherhood to be so life altering. It changes pretty much everything! But in a good way. I know for sure that I didn’t expect tiny people to be so opinionated!
My first-born son is a couple years older than our youngest, so as a newbie mom, I had plenty of time to focus just on him. And I did.
Every toothless grin was priceless. His fuzzy little wisps of newborn hair delighted me. Tiny fingers and toes were fascinating. And is there anything silkier than baby-soft skin? Swoon.
No matter if I was blurry-eyed tired, my newborn love fueled me for every job that needed to be done. And I discovered there were a lot of them!
When my second son was born, I had a better idea of what was ahead. I also fell in love with my second baby, but having two boys meant my time was divided.
And Number One was in the Terrible Twos when his brother was born. Truly, they weren’t so terrible but that’s when I first experienced the strong opinions a little guy can hold.
And that is where Dax, my Number Two, is right now. He has opinions. He has preferences. He wants his way (a lifelong human trait I believe!).
This year, my oldest started pre-school. Now Dax gets my undivided attention for a few hours and we enjoy one-on-one activities.
After dropping his brother off at school, Dax and I made a stop at Walmart this week and I picked up Gerber® Lil’ Beanies™ snacks for him. Actually, Dax reached over and picked a canister off the shelf for himself while I was photographing. He knows what he likes!
Works for me! Gerber® Lil’ Beanies™ is a nutritious snack with two grams of protein and one gram of fiber per serving. The better-for-you bites are made from navy beans and no genetically engineered ingredients and come in Original and White Cheddar and Broccoli (Dax’s fav).
I love it when Dax’s want is something I can say “yes” to. He is in Terrible Two’s territory. Or more gently put, he is opinionated. In the most engaging way, of course!
Gerber® Lil’ Beanies™ have no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives so that desired snack is a win-win in my book.
When we got home, I made a couple of simple charts with Dax’s name and numbers (remember I’ve told you I used to be an elementary teacher?). Dax loved using his Gerber® Lil’ Beanies™ to count and “make” letters.
As you would expect, he loved eating the snacks as much as (or more than?) using them for our activity; one for the chart, two for his mouth, etc.!
And it was fine with me. A happily-ever-after moment with my ever-opinionated, ever-treasured, youngest son!
