Christmas Cookies with Grandma
It’s no secret I spend a lot of time in our kitchen. Beside coming up with our everyday meals, I am frequently exploring party food potentials. With the holidays just ahead of us, I’ve been pulling up even more new recipes to try. Mike and I enjoy being adventuresome with our food choices, and we love to have friends over to taste test our experiments. At six years old, Sam is just the opposite. I’m trusting and hoping he is outgrowing his picky eating tendencies!
I especially love baking sweet breads, cupcakes and cookies; I think that is my grandma’s influence. Growing up, I often spent time with my grandparents. Grandma did a lot of baking and I was her official helper and taste tester (Sam is willing to take on that arduous task when it comes to cookies—must be genetic!). I have lots of wonderful memories of her big GE stove and cozy kitchen full of good smells and good tastes.
When I was very young, I particularly remember being with my Dad at my grandparent’s house during the Christmas holiday. Grandma had evidently been busy in the kitchen all day before we got there because she came into the living room with a two-tiered lazy Susan tray laden with all sorts of homemade candies and cookies. It somehow seemed almost magical to me—all of those treats, just for us!
I think those early yummy Christmas memories set a standard in me. It doesn’t seem like a holiday if we don’t include lots of good food and treats. I’m fortunate to have my own big stove, although it’s a much more contemporary version and has a lot more features than Grandma’s. I appreciate the consistent quality and reliability of my GE Appliances. They perform well and they look good. And yes, that matters because even when we host a party, it seems like guests always end up congregating in the kitchen. We’re already looking forward to sharing with family and friends this holiday season. Sam has graciously let me know he’s available to help with the cookie detail.
Seems we’re not the only family who has special together times in the kitchen, as evidenced by the GE Appliance webisodes. Check them out and look over the GE Café Appliances. I think you’ll be impressed whether you opt for gas, electric or dual fuel ranges or their French door and side-by-side refrigerators. GE Appliances have a wide selection of appliances for the home kitchen that I think could rival fine restaurant models. All you’ll need to add is memories!
