13 Items for a Boy’s College Care Package

Even though Sam is only seven, there are moments I imagine him as he grows up. Since Sam is our only child, each phase we go through with him will be the only time we do it. If I’m honest, there are some moments I’m thankful for this {I’m so happy to never do diapers again!} but there are also times this makes me melancholy. Sam is such a delight and it’s fun to see his personality and character developing. It’s hard to believe that before long his soft cheeks will be covered in whiskers and he’ll be off to college

At each age Sam has been, I reflect on what that period of my own life was like. Each age brings its own triumphs and challenges. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that I could be the age I am {29, of course!} with a husband and son. Wasn’t it just yesterday I was heading off to college?

Several of my family members and friends have kids that headed off to college this fall. Talk about a reminder that kids grow up fast! I can remember these now-adults as kids Sam’s age.  It makes me want to squeeze Sam even tighter.

Mike’s nephew recently headed off to university and we decided to send him a couple of care packages from Sam. I remember being so excited when I left Newfoundland for university…but I also remember feeling so homesick in the first weeks for the only place I’d ever called home.

Homemade cookies, muffins and bread always seem to be gratefully received. Just remember to pack them carefully so they’re still fresh and intact when they arrive. I know rolls of quarters for the laundromat are appreciated, too.

Sam and I have been creating care packages with help from Amazon.com. I love how simple it is. I don’t have to worry about going to the store or post office. I just select the items online and have them shipped.

Here are some of my favorite care package ideas for guys:

  1. Laundry Care Bundle {everything you need in one package—perfect!}
  2. Batteries
  3. Cologne
  4. Microwave Popcorn
  5. First Aid Kit
  6. Movies/CDs
  7. School Supplies
  8. Picture Album
  9. Disposable Razors
  10. Snacks
  11. Socks, utilitarian white and fun, color designs
  12. Sports Bottles {especially the insulated kind}
  13. Specialty Coffee

After I sent the last package, I received a happy phone call from the recipient. He loved everything we sent and he was actually glad to get the Laundry Care Bundle! He must be growing up to be excited about doing laundry!

Stephanie is in love with a boy named Sam. He has taught her that it's okay to jump first and look later, to wear a dirty shirt to the park and to decide that today is a good day to take a nap in your rubber boots. She hangs out here blogging at Spaceships and Laser Beams and at our printable party shop on Etsy.
